“Dark Mountain, Deep Valley” Exhibit Through 8-14-22

Reception on Thursday, June 23

Painter Loren Christofferson will be the subject of the newest exhibition presented by Arts and Culture El Dorado at the Confidence Firehouse Gallery. Dark Mountain, Deep Valley, a series of monochromatic paintings that dive into the artist's nebulous connection to Yosemite's remarkable landscape, opens June 23, 2022.

The exhibition, which evolved from a collaboration with the Scapegoat Collective, features Christofferson’s landscapes that reflect his time immersed in the natural environment.  The works in this series range from traditionally descriptive landscape paintings to heavily abstracted, minimal forms. Inspired by the Japanese aesthetic concept of Yūgen – an experience of beauty beyond words – Christofferson's series of paintings explores natural beauty in the abstract. Dark Mountain, Deep Valley moves beyond mimesis (representation or imitation of the real world in art and literature) to examine the ineffable experience of being immersed in the Sierra Nevada's immense presence.

Dark Mountain, Deep Valley opens with a reception on Thursday, June 23, from 6-8 p.m. The exhibition will run through August 14, 2022. Confidence Firehouse Gallery, located at 487 Main Street in Placerville is open Thursday-Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
