Friends of Butte Creek Online Wild and Scenic Film Festival

Join us for a glorious evening of environmental outdoor films -- from your very own living room. Enjoy the experience with guests from across the state of California via live chat and support local salmon populations and creek restoration.

The Friends of Butte Creek Online Wild and Scenic Film Festival is on Friday, November 20, 2020.

Want a peek? See 1 minute and 27 seconds of beautiful, https://youtu.be/Dee0_-x5AB0

This event is in honor of the living resident salmon in Butte Creek, who swim from the Pacific Ocean to Butte Creek in June, swim in place, without eating all summer long, and then spawn in November. If you love salmon, this event is for you.

Find out more about our salmon, when charismatic executive director Allen Harthorn hosts the film festival. We are beyond excited to have New Zealand filmmaker Karthic SS join us to talk about making Sniper, the story of former ranger Leith Thompson and his dog Sniper who is trained to track and rescue injured endangered Yellow-eyed Penguins and to find their nests for tracking and safe-keeping. Here's a trailer for Sniper, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HAKJwrT9wX0.

We are also delighted to have Northern California filmmaker Matthew Ritenour attending whose film Hammer Dam shows local Harold Hammer making the choice to blow up a dam on his own property to open up his creek for salmonid migration. Trailer coming soon.

Guests will have the chance for a live chat with each one of them, right after each film.

Guests will have the chance to see the films any time up to six days after the event, which means you can make the Friends of Butte Creek Online Wild and Scenic Film Festival a part of your 2020 Thanksgiving.

Friends of Butte Creek is receiving phenomenal donations that will be available by live auction, including signed books by Jennifer Jewell, Gregory Crouch, Dr. Benjamin Madley, Melina Watts.and a set of all six books by Carl Safina.

Join us for a fun event that will help us be together even when we're apart and become a member, a supporter and one of the Friends of Butte Creek.
