Sutter Creek Event: Hot Metal and Antique Tin at Historic Knight Foundry

Knight Foundry in Sutter Creek is America’s last water-powered foundry and machine shop and a premier example of Mother Lode history. On Saturday, April 11, two special demonstrations will be going on all day. Expert docents will be making sand castings and pouring hot metal to create beautiful artifacts reminiscent of days gone by. Outside, docent Gary Barnes will be demonstrating tinsmithing, using tools and techniques that are over 150 years old, and he will be dressed in period costume. As ever, visitors will enjoy a self-guided tour in the Foundry complex, talking with docents and marveling at the magnificent machinery that’s still intact and operating.

Knight Foundry is open from 10 a.m. till 3 p.m. on every second Saturday. The next few tour dates are March 14, April 11, May 9, June 13, July 11, and August 8. Admission (which always includes demonstrations) is $15 for adults 18 and older, $5 for students age 5-17, free for children under 5 and for members of Knight Foundry Alliance. No reservations are necessary. 81 Eureka Street, Sutter Creek CA 95685. @knightfoundry, [email protected], or 209-560-6160
