Diamond Springs Event: Sierra Wildlife Rescue's 2020 Wildlife Rehabbing Classes
Sierra Wildlife classes on specific species begin in February at the SWR Wildlife Center, 777 Pleasant Valley Rd, Diamond Springs. The classes are free to SWR Members, with a $5.00 fee per person for non-members. If you sign up for an SWR membership at a class, there is no fee for it or any other class. If you are interested in learning more about rehabbing wildlife, these classes will be important to you.
Select the February classes for wild animals you may be interested in rehabbing from the following: Raptors, February 15, from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m; Squirrels, February 22, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m; Rabbits, February 23, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m; Opossums, February 29, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon and Skunk babies, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. We do not take adult skunks, but will provide advice and assistance on safety and release. An additional class will be held as individual instruction by appointment. Call Marty Owen, at 530-626-6518, to make an appointment for “Rehabbing Raccoons,” for any month this spring. Classes on other species will be available in the coming months, from March through May.
All instructors are experienced experts in the handling and care of the wildlife in which you are interested. To rehab any species, you will need to attend the class concerning them (only given once a year), followed by hands-on training and mentoring for several months with an experienced rehabber for the species. All basic supplies for rehabbing are provided by SWR, and the majority of others are reimbursable. Come learn about the enjoyment and satisfaction of rehabbing El Dorado County’s orphaned or injured wild animals and releasing them back to their natural habitat when they can fend for themselves. We look forward to meeting you!
