Coloma: Living History and Lecture
Hear Tales of the First Postmaster and First Postmistress of Coloma
At 2 p.m. in the museum our lecture series will be exploring the lives of the first postmaster and first postmistress of Coloma. Established in November of 1849, the US Post Office in Coloma was first run by John Little, a business owner and entrepreneur in the area. Little was a reluctant postmaster who ultimately financed much of the operation out of his own pocket.
In the early 20th century, Coloma had its first postmistress, Cora Price, who took over the role upon the death of her father. Learn more about these colorful characters during our lecture series at 2 p.m.
Join docents on the lawn beside the millworker's cabin from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. as they demonstrate what life was like during the California Gold Rush during Living History Day activities. Visitors can take part in hands on demonstrations such as journal writing, rope making, laundry, tin punching, children’s games, and more.
