Sacramento Event: Stained Glass Music for Saint Cecillia

The Sacramento Choral Society and Orchestra with Music Director Donald Kendrick open their 24th year of performances in the Capital Region with their Stained Glass concert entitled Music For St. Cecilia in Sacramento’s Fremont Presbyterian 5770 Carlson at H Street on Saturday, October 19 at 8 PM.

The concert honoring St. Cecilia, the Patron Saint of Music, will feature the Messe Solennelle en l’Honneur de Sainte Cécile by Charles Gounod with soloists Carrie Hennessey, Soprano, Michael Desnoyers, Tenor, and Kevin Doherty, Baritone. The choir will also perform Handel’s Zadok The Priest one of the great Coronation anthems featuring organist Dr. Ryan Enright along with David Dickau’s If Music Be The Food of Love.

The SCSO commissioned CSUS Professor Dr. Scott Perkins to create A Song For St. Cecilia’s Day which will receive its world première that evening. Also included in the program is Daniel Elder’s stunning Ave Maria and Malcolm Archer’s electrifying A Hymn For St. Cecilia. Organist Ryan Enright will set the scene for this unique concert with a performance of Rachel Laurin’s Etude on Fremont’s mighty Reuter pipe organ. The SCSO will have their brand new Brahms Requiem CD available at the concert.

A free post-concert reception will be held in the parish center. Some tickets may be available at the door. For further information and tickets, visit the Sacramento Choral Society’s website at sacramentochoral.com or email the SCSO at [email protected].
