GRANITE CHIEF WHISKEY CREEK / FIVE LAKES TRAIL / SHANKS COVE TRAIL / OVERNIGHT BACKPACK Saturday August 17 8AM to Sunday August 18 5PM ARC volunteer Tom Dodson will lead this exploration of the Granite Chief Wilderness Area from the Grayhorse Valley Trailhead, Grayhorse Valley Trail (15E11). You will start off the day with a hike up to the end of the Grayhorse Valley up to the crest. From the east you will be able to see the Granite Chief Wilderness. We will be camping at Whisky Creek for the evening. On Sunday you will be hiking down along Five Lakes Creek Trail. In the afternoon back up Shanks Cove Trails which has beautiful waterfalls and pools along the trail. This is an overnight trip, so bring your own backpack with supplies and food. Hike difficulty, intermediate – with 1000 ft. elevation gains at the beginning and end of the hike, a total of 14 miles round-trip. Age minimum: 14 years-old with backpacking experience. This is not a beginner’s hike. Contact ARC to sign up and for meeting location TBD.
