Thanks to picture-perfect scenes of Lake Tahoe as you ascend the somewhat steep trail, the route offers a solid workout, wildlife (can you spot the bald eagles?), and a rewarding view at the end when you arrive at Marlette Lake.

The trail offers little sun protection, so bring a hat, sunscreen, ample water, and your swimsuit (if you want to take a dip!). Like most hikes in the area, be mindful of poison oak. It’s a popular area for mountain biking and horseback riding, in addition to hiking, so expect to share the trail. As always, leave naturel the same, or better, than you found it.
