If you’re craving delicious Japanese food in casual environs, head to Tokyo Express in Rocklin. Their extensive menu offers something for everyone. Let’s kick things off with appetizers because, let’s be honest, ordering at least one is non-negotiable. Edamame is always a fan favorite, and here you can have it with spicy garlic, deep-fried, or boiled and sprinkled with coarse sea salt. But there are over 15 other starters, too, from shrimp tempura and ahi poke salad to spring rolls, BBQ albacore, and miso soup. Personally, I went for the pan-fried gyoza, which turned out to be a perfect prelude to the feast. As for mains, if you’re indecisive, no worries! Select several and share. My friend and I did exactly that—ordering a teriyaki roll, spicy tuna roll, and chicken teriyaki. The rolls were top-notch: fresh ingredients, crisp nori (you can also opt for rolls wrapped in soy paper), and perfectly balanced sauces that complemented as opposed to overpowered. The chicken teriyaki, served alongside steamed rice and a side salad, was also enjoyable. With rolls aplenty, plus nigiri, sashimi, udon, ramen, salads, fried rice, noodle plates, and a kids’ menu, as I said earlier, there’s truly something for everyone!
