The City of Folsom unveiled the first art installation on the Johnny Cash Trail: a seven-foot-tall bronze guitar pick called Cash’s Pick No. 1. Designed and created by local artist Adan Romo of Sacramento-based Romo Studios LLC., the project was funded by federal and private sources and sits at the lower entrance of the Johnny Cash Trail, near the Rainbow Bridge in the Folsom Historic District. Congrats to Koinonia Family Services (kfh.org), a Loomis-based nonprofit committed to supporting foster youth and families through trauma-informed care, offering resources to parents, and promoting family reunification to create brighter futures, for receiving a $70,000 grant from global nonprofit Herbalife Family Foundation (herbalifefamilyfoundation.org). Koinonia was one of 164 organizations worldwide that received funds via HFF’s Casa Herbalife program, which provides nutritious meals, educational resources, and safe environments for children and underserved communities.
Nature Quest—a unique program spearheaded by Placer Land Trust that’s designed to inspire the community to connect with nature, explore scenic trails, and experience the natural beauty of our public preserves in a fun, engaging way—kicks off January 18 with a free party from 1-3 p.m. at Auburn School Park Preserve. Folsom’s chapter of the National Charity League (nationalcharityleague.org/chapter/folsom)—a group of mothers and daughters committed to community service, leadership development, and cultural experiences—is holding its annual Membership Drive beginning January 15. Applications are open (through March 1) for girls currently enrolled in grades sixth through seventh. Prospective members are encouraged to attend an informational meeting on January 16 (6 p.m.), February 2 (1 p.m.), or February 26 (6 p.m.).. For more info, email [email protected].

Blue Line Arts is seeking submissions (deadline is January 17) for their upcoming Lottery for the Arts fundraiser—an unforgettable evening where every ticket holder takes home a unique piece of art and whose proceeds support arts education programs for children (free field trips for underserved schools, youth mural projects, summer camps, scholarships, and more). Jimboy’s Tacos (jimboystacos.com), the birthplace of “the original American taco,” added numerous delicious menu items and refreshing beverages to all their Northern California locations. Look forward to a permanent return of the El Gordo Taco and Combo Burrito, plus new additions like a Fried Chicken Taco, Cinnamon Churros, Crème-Filled Churros, Churro Dipping Sauce, and Viva Sol Aguas Frescas.
