Take a Hike: Putah Creek Riparian Reserve
Located:
Davis.
Distance:
6.1 miles out and back.
Difficulty Level:
Easy.
Know Before You Go:
Keep an eye out for poison oak, which is harder to recognize in fall and winter. The trail becomes increasingly exposed, so bring plenty of water, wear sunscreen, and dress in layers (including a waterproof one). Some people mention ticks in the area, though I didn’t find them to be a problem; check yourself after the hike. As always, practice Leave No Trace principles.
Why We Love It:
This semi-shaded trail along Putah Creek is a super easy stroll that offers enough mileage to enjoy a quiet, meandering walk in nature. If you don’t feel like breaking a sweat but still want to enjoy the outdoors with creek access, tree swings, and birding opportunities, this route won’t disappoint.
Fuel Up:
As the name suggests, Crepeville (crepeville.com) serves delicious crepes, both sweet and savory, alongside classic American comfort food in casual, family-friendly environs. Pick up your order at the counter (I recommend the California crepe with house potatoes) and head to their patio to soak up the sun.
