I found the best dim sum. Literally. It’s tucked inside a shopping center along Auburn Folsom Road near Douglas Boulevard, and it’s called Best Dim Sum. I took my mom for lunch (she’s a self-proclaimed dim sum expert), and we ended up ordering more than we could eat in one sitting, which just meant one thing: leftovers! We had BBQ Pork Buns, Siu Mai, Fried Shrimp Balls, Shrimp Dumplings, and Honey Walnut Shrimp. (They offer more than just dim sum!) The BBQ pork buns were soft and fluffy and steamed to perfection. The siu mai, a dumpling filled with ground pork and shrimp, also had a wonderful texture and flavor. We saw an interesting-looking dish heading to another table and asked what it was, then ordered what turned out to be fried shrimp balls. The shrimp was formed into a ball then rolled over spring roll strips and deep-fried. They arrived with the strips sticking up haphazardly and somehow tasted crispy and soft at the same time. Oh, and the honey walnut shrimp? It was one of the best renditions I’ve had. I highly recommend it. Finish your meal with an order of Egg Tarts—a yummy, sweet custard inside a flaky pastry that was seriously scrumptious. My mom and I are already planning our next visit!
