Julian’s Pastry Nouveau

I love when a local, family-owned business is doing so well they launch another location. The namesake co-owner and pastry chef of the always-delicious Julian’s Patisserie & Café in Folsom branched out and opened another café in Roseville: Julian’s Pastry Nouveau. If you enjoy pastries and desserts, you must stop by and try a few (or more!) of their house-made treats. A friend and I went for lunch and ordered the chicken salad (for me) and the ham & Swiss (for her)—served on freshly baked, flaky croissants. Savory and flavorful, with the perfect amount of seasoning, my chicken salad sub paired perfectly with the caramel macchiato (made using from-scratch vanilla syrup, locally roasted java from Folsom favorite Kingdom Coffee Roasters, and caramel drizzle). My friend ordered an affogato (house-made vanilla gelato drowned with fresh-pulled espresso) and quickly devoured her ham sandwich with béchamel (a creamy form of Swiss cheese), but not before she let me try it. Twice. (It was really, really good.) We couldn’t leave without having some sort of dessert, so we shared a few: the big-as-your-face chocolate chip cookie (fabulous!); and the torsade, which looked like a twisted breadstick and was filled with chocolate and a little custard (yummy!). There’s seriously something for everyone: tarts, brownies, scones, muffins, cinnamon rolls, breakfast sandwiches, avocado toast, and more. Order more than one thing; you’ll thank me later.
