May Calendar: May is National Salsa Month

May 4th

Big Day of Giving. Give back to nonprofits in El Dorado Hills, Placer, Sacramento, and Yolo counties at this 24-hour giving challenge. Find a cause near and dear to you and help increase local philanthropy by donating a minimum of $15.

Unstoppable. The Folsom Lake College Dance Department is presenting a night of dance across numerous genres, including ballet, jazz, and hip hop. There will also be guest artists from regional high schools and FLC’s MOSAIC Dance Company. The show begins at 6 p.m.

May 5th

Harvey. Witness Mary Chase’s award-winning comedy following the story of Elwood P. Dowd and his invisible, six-foot tall rabbit that only he can see. Show times vary.



Roseville Mayor’s Cup Golf Tournament. Support the community by attending this golf tournament whose proceeds will provide scholarships and fee waiver assistance for qualifying families to participate in activities like swim lessons and sports programs. Check-in begins at 10 a.m., with an 11 a.m. lunch, noon start, and an awards dinner at 6 p.m.

May 6th

Italy on Wheels. Peruse Italian cars, motorcycles, and bicycles at the Murer House in Folsom from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Pizza by the slice and Italian beers and sodas will also be available. Admission is free.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Watch the epic fairy-tale unfold as Snow White must seek refuge from the jealous evil queen and befriend seven miners along the way. Expect an eccentric talking mirror, 14 lively songs, and a dark forest ballet. All showings begin at 1 p.m. at the Sutter Street Theatre.

A Taste on Main Street. Stroll around Downtown Placerville beginning at 1 p.m. (rain or shine) for food samples from participating restaurants, wine, a raffle, and live music by the award-winning El Dorado High School jazz band and marching band and local bluegrass band Red Dirt Ruckus.

Foothills Brewfest. Bring your friends to the Gold Country Fairgrounds from 1-5 p.m. for craft beer, music, games, and food trucks. All proceeds will benefit Rotary Club of Auburn and the Gold Country Fair Heritage Foundation, which aids community projects and supports the enhancement of the Gold Country fairgrounds.

Folsom Handcar Derby. Cheer on your favorite local business, group, or charity at this 30th annual event that includes handcar racing, a pusher’s contest, and quadripede racing—all taking place along East Bidwell Street at Broadstone Parkway. Proceeds will benefit the Folsom, El Dorado, and Sacramento Historical Railroad Association. Start times vary depending on division and race category.

May 7th

Love My Mom 5k. Celebrate family and community by participating in this 5K or kid’s dash (10 and under) at the Palladio. All participants are welcome—from leashed dogs, to runners, walkers, and stroller-riders. A post-race festival with vendor booths, refreshments, music, and activities will take place at the Piazza near the finish line.

Sacramento Valley RC Fest. Try out your skills at driving remote controlled cars, trucks, and boats at this inaugural event at the Folsom Lake State Recreation Area from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. An RC airplane demonstration, relay boat race with prizes, scavenger hunt, and more will also be part of the fun. Admission is free.

Placer Women’s Retreat. Celebrate and honor women from 8:15 a.m.-2 p.m. at Roseville’s Timber Creek Ballroom. Hosted by the Placer Breast Cancer Foundation, the interactive retreat includes health workshops, breakfast, lunch, refreshments, and giveaways. Must be 21+ to attend.

May 11th

Spring Rummage & Plant Sale. The Placerville Shakespeare Club at 2940 Bedford Avenue is hosting a three-day event (9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Thursday and Friday; 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday) featuring a large selection of jewelry, clothing, home décor, books, dolls, and more. There will also be a plant sale on Saturday from 8-11 a.m.

Coral Kingdoms and Empires of Ice. Join the prolific photographic team of David Doubilet and his underwater partner Jennifer Hayes on a visual journey of their National Geographic assignments to three unique marine environments: Papua New Guinea's Kimbe Bay, Antarctica, and Canada’s Gulf of St. Lawrence. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Harris Center.

May 12th

Felipe Esparza. Witness famed comedian Felipe Esparza beginning at 8 p.m. at the Harris Center. After winning Last Comic Standing, Esparza went on to create a Netflix special and has appeared in many comedic shows, such as the Eric Andre Show, World’s Dumbest, and Superstore, to name a few.

May 13th

Mother’s Day Weekend. Celebrate your mom (or being a mom!) by heading to the Placer Wine Trail for vino tasting and special activities at this non-ticketed event.

A Night of Funk with The Dazz Band & Club Nouveau. Spend the evening with two Grammy award-winning artists, Dazz Band and Club Nouveau, at this concert whose proceeds benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Sacramento Area.

El Dorado Hills Art, Beer, & Wine Festival. Bring the family to Town Center Boulevard in El Dorado Hills for live music, food, and unlimited tastings from award-winning craft breweries and prestigious wineries. The event runs from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. with tastings from noon-4 p.m. Entry into the festival is free, but a “tasting kit” must be purchased to partake in 21+ sips.

North Auburn Art Studio Tours. Peruse local works of art and support area artists from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at this annual event that includes studios from Auburn to Placerville. Admission is free.

May 18th

Woof Wine & Dine. Support animals in need by heading to the Vernon Street Town Square from 6-9 p.m. for food sampling, wine tasting, raffles, music, and more. All proceeds will benefit Placer SPCA’s efforts to find forever homes for furry friends in need.

May 20th

Art Studio Tour. Support the art community by attending this 13th annual self-guided tour of artist's studios across 14 locations in El Dorado Hills, Folsom, Shingle Springs, and Rescue. Start at any location, speak with the artists, and purchase works from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Folsom Symphony Community Concert. Revel in upbeat selections from stage and screen at this free concert by the acclaimed Folsom Lake Symphony. The show begins at 8:30 p.m. at Historic Folsom’s Zittel Family Amphitheater.

May 21th

Spring Concert. Expect fun, faith-based music—ranging from classics to pop, with an emphasis on inspiration and patriotism—at this free concert by Winds of Faith. The show begins at 2 p.m. at Roseville’s Centerpoint Community Church.

Victory Over Violence. Run or walk for a cause by participating in this 5K or 1K that begins at Folsom Point State Park. All proceeds benefit UC Davis’ Injury and Violence Prevention and Trauma Wraparound programs—both aimed to provide physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual support for victims of violent crimes. Scheduled race-day activities also include live music, snacks, yoga, and more.

Gold Country Half Marathon & 5K. Presented by Marshall Medical Center and hosted by Gold Country Run + Sport, this premiere running event starts and ends at the El Dorado Hills Town Center. After the race, enjoy the finishers' festival featuring food, beer, music, and more.

May 25th

Chipping Away at Childhood Cancer Golf Tournament. Show your love and support to children and families battling cancer by attending this 26th annual event at The Ridge Golf Course & Event Center. The tournament kicks off at 9:30 a.m. and includes food, fun, and prizes.

May 26th

Cabaret. Experience Berlin in the late 1920s at the Sutter Street Theatre and follow along as Cliff, a young American writer, is taken by English singer Sally Bowlers during the tumultuous time of the Third Reich. Show times vary.
