Roseville recently welcomed Brazilian steakhouse Galpão Gaucho (galpaogauchousa.com) to 1400 Eureka Road. For a set price, guests can enjoy unlimited offerings from a two-course menu, including 17 different cuts of meat (beef, seafood, pork, chicken, lamb, and more) and over 40 gourmet salads and sides (garlic mashed potatoes, caramelized bananas, homemade chimichurri sauce, cheese bread, etc.).

Home-based bakery, The Caring Kitchen (thecaringkitchenfolsom.com), which makes gluten-free and oftentimes vegan or keto sweet treats (cookie sandwiches, brownies, cupcakes, and chocolate peanut butter bars, to name a few), is opening a storefront at 3084 Sunrise Boulevard, Suite 15, in Rancho Cordova. Slated to open this month, offerings will change weekly.

The Marketplace at Granite Bay, anchored by Raley’s and located at the northwest corner of Douglas Boulevard and Auburn Folsom Road, is welcoming two new tenants: Sette Pasta House, which is spearheaded by Paul Jansen (the owner of Fourk Kitchen and Citizen Vine in Lincoln) and will serve seven dishes (five core homemade pasta plates, plus two rotating entrées each month); and Houston-based nail chain, Milano Nail Spa.

Vernon Street Dining Room—a Randy Peters Catering & Event Center space at 105 Vernon Street in Roseville—hosts a variety of fun, open-to-the-public experiences, including monthly family-style dinners, tastemaker dinners, cooking classes for kids and adults, and more. Bay Area-based Bagel Street Café (bagelstreetcafe.net) is expanding to Rocklin. The soon-to-open eatery, sited at 4819 Granite Drive, is known for their assortment of scratch-made bagels, sandwiches, and espresso drinks—all crafted using the freshest possible products.

State-of-the-art boxing studio RockBox Fitness (rockboxfitness.com/roseville), which features full-body group fitness classes incorporating boxing, kickboxing, and functional training, opened a location at 1960 Blue Oaks Boulevard, Suite 170, in Roseville. Nutrition consulting and guidance, personal training, and weight loss/body transformation programs are also available.

Tapville (tapvillesocial.com/westfieldgalleriaatroseville), scheduled to open this month inside Westfield Galleria at Roseville, features a self-pour tap wall with 16 beers, ciders, and wines, in addition to craft cocktails and ample seating.

Fresh-baked cookie company, Cookie Plug (cookieplug.com), which bakes 17 unique flavors of “the freshest, fattest, and thickest cookies around” in shops that combine art-themed graffiti and hip-hop culture, opened a location at 5237 Hazel Avenue in Fair Oaks. 

Bring your cat or canine to The Dog House Pet Salon (thedoghouse-petsalon.com) for a full grooming experience, professional bath, creative grooming, and more. Located at 2222 Francisco Drive, Suite 420, in El Dorado Hills, the business is expected to open in May.

Roseville Junction—an 11-acre, mixed-use development project northeast of Westfield Galleria at Roseville on Conference Center Drive—is starting construction later this year. Confirmed tenants include Berkeley-based Fieldwork Brewing Company (fieldworkbrewing.com), which will be part of a larger outdoor gathering space featuring other food and drink purveyors; two hotels (Caption by Hyatt Roseville and Hyatt House Roseville); and Electric Pickle, an entertainment-retail complex combining pickleball courts and bocce ball with a two-story bar and restaurant.

People & Places in the News

Marshall Medical Center (marshallmedical.org)—a fully accredited acute care facility with 111 beds in Placerville and several outpatient facilities in the surrounding area—is expanding to 4201 Town Center Boulevard in El Dorado Hills. The 50,000-square-foot structure (formerly owned by Blue Shield) will transform the current office building into a clinic, allowing Marshall to provide more and varied health care to the El Dorado Hills and Folsom communities.

High school seniors residing in Placer County, El Dorado County, or Nevada County are encouraged to apply for the Protect American River Canyons (PARC) High School Scholarship Essay Contest. Write an original essay of 500 words or less describing your response to the question “What is your personal connection to the American River and its canyons, and how has a current concern, such as the COVID pandemic, climate change, social media influence, racial inequality, or another concern you have, impacted the American River and its canyons?” Submission deadline is March 15, and up to $2,500 will be awarded. SAFE Credit Union is granting 10 high school seniors with $2,000 scholarships. The scholarships are based on financial need, GPA, a personal statement, and a letter of recommendation. To be eligible, applicants must attend schools in local counties, including Amador, El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, or Sacramento; be members of SAFE (or have parents or guardians who are members); and have plans to attend a four-year college, community college, or trade school. Popular Folsom restaurant Limon E Sal Taqueria & Bar (limonesaltaqueria.com) recently added sushi to its lengthy list of offerings. In addition to Mexican favorites like nachos, burritos, tacos, and tostadas, they also have a full sushi bar, including an all-you-can-eat option Tuesday-Saturday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

Congrats to El Dorado Hills resident Bianca Wittenberg who appeared on Shark Tank and was offered a $150,000 contract for a 25% share of her product, FireFighter1 (fightfirefirst.com), which allows homeowners to hook up a hose to their pool’s existing water pump and spray 80 gallons of water per minute onto their house in case of a fire.
