What's Up In December 2022: The Newest Awards, Events, and Announcements from El Dorado County to Roseville
Crumbl Cookies (crumblcookies.com)—known for their signature pink boxes, open-concept kitchens, and fresh-baked cookies in unique, weekly rotating flavors (brownie fudge, cookie dough crunch, raspberry cheesecake, etc.)—opened a second location in Roseville at 1921 Douglas Boulevard, Suite 105. The first is at 6726 Stanford Ranch Road, Suite 5.
Sage at Folsom (sageatfolsom.usamfm.com), an affordable senior housing development at 75 Scholar Way, is under construction. Once complete, the 111-apartment community will provide residents 55 and older ample amenities, including a community garden, dog park, and refrigerated storage area for food deliveries.
Fusion Academy (fusionacademy.com), a fully accredited private school that specializes in one-on-one instruction for middle school and high school students, is opening its 81st campus next month at 420 Palladio Parkway, Suite 1717, in Folsom.
Rey Mimosa, a restaurant serving breakfast and lunch (eggs, pancakes, burgers, sandwiches, etc.), is opening at 3300 Coach Lane in Cameron Park’s Burke Junction. A variety of mimosas will also be available once their liquor license is approved.
Placerville’s Prospector's Plaza, one of El Dorado County’s largest shopping centers, is welcoming four new tenants: Aspen Dental (aspendental.com), Dunkin’ Donuts (dunkindonuts.com), Jersey Mike’s Subs (jerseymikes.com), and Quick Quack Car Wash (dontdrivedirty.com).
Sweet treat chain Devil & Angel Desserts (devilnangel.com)—which offers handcrafted soft serve that can be enjoyed in waffle cones, “angel cones,” with boba, or affogato-style; along with refreshers, milk teas, bubble smoothies, mochi donuts, and more—is opening at 280 Palladio Parkway, Suite 929, in Folsom’s Palladio.
24 Hour Kitchens (24hourkitchens.com), an hourly kitchen rental and commissary business—started by Jeff Back of Back Bistro—opened a new location, Folsom Baking Kitchen, at 13405 Folsom Boulevard, Suite 910. Open to chefs, caterers, entrepreneurs, food trucks, bakers, and more, the commercially permitted space can also be used for food photo shoots, meal prep, canning/bottling, and more. A second location is scheduled to open soon at 8525 Madison Avenue, Suite 127 in Fair Oaks.
Rancho Cordova-based Burning Barrel Brewing Co. (burningbarrelbrewco.com)—known for their smoothie sours and barrel-aged brews—has plans to open a second location at 640 Main Street in Placerville. In addition to beer, Burning Barrel Brewing & Distillery will produce spirits and serve cocktails featuring local, seasonal ingredients from El Dorado County.
“Sweat with the heat and transform your life” at Namaste Hot Yoga & Wellness (namastehotyogaandwellness.com) in Granite Bay (4067 Cavitt Stallman Road). The studio offers classes like yoga dance, “Warm 101” (gentle flow in a room heated to 80 degrees), and hot yoga; in addition, they offer multiple packages and membership plans to fit every lifestyle and budget.
X-Golf America (playxgolf.com), the “most innovative and accurate golf simulator experience in the world,” is opening at 2085 Vine Street in the El Dorado Hills Town Center. In addition to state-of-the-art simulators that can be rented out for tee times, private lessons, tournaments, and events, there will also be a full bar and restaurant.
Skin Laundry (skinlaundry.com)—a clinic that offers medical-grade, revolutionary laser facials (each designed to target specific skin concerns) in relaxed, friendly environs—is opening soon at Folsom’s Palladio (280 Palladio Parkway, Suite 909).
A taproom is coming to Cameron Park’s Burke Junction at 3300 Coach Lane, Suite D5. The approximately 1,500-square-foot Crafthouse Culture will offer 20 rotating craft beer taps, along with wine, hard kombucha, cider, and hard seltzers.
A new brewpub, Brick & Barrel, opened at 155 Joiner Parkway, Suites 600 and 700, in Lincoln. In addition to a spacious bar with TVs, the family-friendly restaurant also boasts a heated patio and serves elevated pub grub like pizzas, salads, sandwiches, wings, and cleverly topped tater tots. Cha-Cha’s Cocina Mexicana at 6130 Stanford Ranch Road in Rocklin is under new ownership and in the process of introducing numerous changes, including a new name (Catrina’s Cantina), new menu, and new décor.
As a creative way to freshen up their menu, Folsom’s Sacramento Pizza Company (sacpizzaco.com) hosted a “Pizza Contest” where they invited staff members to create a clever pie. Notable community members served as judges and rated the pizzas on taste, presentation, and marketability. Congrats to first place winner, Jonah Meador (Truffle Chicken), second place winner, Braden Weygandt (Balsamic Picante), and third place winner, Elyan Calderon (Bacon Extreme). Congrats to general manager of Thunder Valley Casino Resort (thundervalleyresort.com), Dawn Clayton, for being named Placer Valley’s 2022 “Businessperson of the Year” and Bentley Price Associates’ “Best of the Best” in executive operations. Clayton is a 40-plus-year veteran of the gaming/hospitality industry and has held executive-level positions at commercial, riverboat, racinos, and Native American properties; additionally, she’s involved in various philanthropic efforts, including PRIDE Industries and the Placer SPCA.
Paul Dhadda, CEO of Exquisite Travel Group (exquisitetravelgroup.com)—a full-service travel agency based in Roseville—was awarded the “Romance Travel Specialist Award” at the Love Travel Awards in Portugal—a glamorous, three-day event celebrating the world’s most outstanding hotels, venues, and romance travel specialists.

American River Conservancy (arconservancy.org) purchased Lewis Ranch—a 972-acre working cattle ranch that contains remnants of a historic homestead and boasts oak woodland and forest habitat. Now owned and managed by ARC, the property is permanently protected from subdivision and development.
Kitchen Goods/Ultimate Designs (ultimatedesignkitchens.com) relocated their store and showroom to a larger space in Downtown Placerville (492 Main Street). Open Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday-Monday from 11 a.m.-5 p.m., the shop features design inspiration and sells cookware, barware, specialty foods, gifts, custom cabinets, tile, and more.
