Get Involved In Christian Youth Theater Today [SPONSORED ARTICLE]

CYT is a licensed affiliate of the largest children’s theater company in the nation, and now we’re in Folsom!

Those of you who enjoy theater know how much fun it is and how it brings people together. You also know about the impact an arts education can have on a child.

Considering what kids are facing today, one might get discouraged.

They’ve experienced isolation, loneliness, and confusion. They’re under immense pressure to play the comparison game and society is telling them they have to earn their worth to belong.

If you’ve never heard of CYT, we’d like to introduce ourselves. Affectionately known as “Awkwardly-Closer-Than-Family,” Christian Youth Theater was founded in 1981 and now boasts 23 Branches across the nation. Locally, we began in 2012 in Roseville and are thrilled to be in the Folsom area since Fall 2021.

We may look like just another kid's theater program, but we are primarily a character organization that uses theater as a vehicle to develop kids and adults, not the other way around.

CYT is dedicated to developing character and creativity in kids of all ages through quality theater arts training that brings families and communities together while reflecting the Creator.

Our after-school program for kids ages 5-18 offers musical theater summer camps, theater-arts classes, and produces high-quality Broadway shows. Kids ages 8 and up who are enrolled in a class have the opportunity to audition for a show. Students ages 14 and up can learn how to “ninja” working backstage to make the theater magic happen.

We may look like just another kid's theater program, but we are primarily a character organization.

In the context of classes, students focus on growing in personal character via “FYC” - Find Your Character lessons. The curriculum highlights and names the virtues students are already exercising while doing theater such as discipline, endurance, creativity, and determination. We focus on how these traits serve us and the community we live in.

CYT is open to everyone, and Christianity is not a prerequisite for participation. As an educational organization, CYT is not affiliated with any denomination or church.

Rather than critiquing the culture around us, CYT is following Christ’s example and creating our own culture. A kind, vibrant, virtue-based culture that is a place for formation as well as creative expression. We are all learners. Mistakes are expected. Bravery is celebrated.

CYT Alumni and National Decathlon Essay Scholarship Winner Mackenzie Salstrom says this . . .

“I joined CYT as a shy anxious kid who hated talking to new people. More than any other extracurricular I could have chosen, CYT has helped me to “find my character.” I can genuinely say I don’t know where I’d be without this incredible community, and I’ll always be grateful for the impact it’s had on my life.”
