Placerville Public House
Transforming a dark and controversial history into a place of community and celebration, Placerville Public House adds a new twist to some classic favorites while providing the perfect balance between old and new.
The rich history of Gold Country exudes from the centuries-old, antique brick walls. Through historically protected murals and faded pictures of early 1900s life in Placerville, the spirit of a bygone era emanates outward and is impregnated with the smell of malted libations and freshly baked pizzas.
A true beer lover’s haven, the pub boasts rare, small-batch craft brews and a renewed menu every six months, sourced from local farms—so you can rest assured that the beer is always cold, the ingredients are always fresh, and the plates are always innovative.
We started off with the pub nachos, a creative twist on a pub classic. In place of traditional tortilla chips, we received a tower of kettle chips bathed in deliciously savory and spicy beer cheese sprinkled with beans, green onions, and corn, topped with a conservative serving of shredded pork and habanero sour cream. This fork-friendly plate made it clear why the popularity of this place has begun to skyrocket.
As we savored the last remaining bite of nachos, a steaming serving of skillet-baked pork belly mac ‘n’ cheese came sizzling onto the table. With a touch of spice, the savory cheese and blue cheese crumbles melted away amid the perfect bite-sized piece of pork belly. Garnished with habanero sour cream, crispy onions, and chopped green onions, the execution couldn’t have been more delicious.
The sushi bowl provided an appreciated touch of freshness, tang, and balance to the meal but lacked something we couldn’t quite pinpoint. It was, however, a nice, light addition to an otherwise rich meal.
Now for dessert. Oh, man! The cinnamon apple flat tied sweet and tart notes together perfectly. A sweet cream cheese spread sat on a delicately soft flatbread crust topped with cinnamon apples and drizzled with sweet caramel. When fresh apples don’t fall far from the tree and right onto your plate, you can bet you’re going to get something special.
