Nevada City.
3.2-mile loop.
Moderate.
From crab cakes to seared ahi tuna and award-winning pizzas, Lefty’s Grill (leftysgrill.com) is a gourmet experience with scenic riverside environs that’s sure to cap off a great day of exploration. Enjoy a solid selection of artisan beers and wine along with craftily prepared plates.
The trail is located near private properties, so please be conscious of staying on it. Mosquitos abound! Parking is limited and the path gets busy, so park in town and walk to the trailhead, if necessary, to avoid fines.
Enjoy time away with the entire family (and your leashed pups!) on this easy but engaging hike. The trail leads you through a piece of Gold Country history, boasting several historical mining sites, a suspension bridge, and easy access with options to extend.
Respect the posted signage, practice Leave No Trace ethics, and come prepared with plenty of water and shoes with traction.
SPOTLIGHT ON NEVADA CITY
As with many early California settlements, gold mining was the driving force behind the development of the quaint town and once-home of former president Herbert Hoover: Nevada City. It’s remained one of the strongest surviving towns founded in the Gold Rush era, in part due to ’60s-era entrepreneurs and the unshakeable spirit of community that now defines it. Mountains, rivers, and a sense of timelessness encapsulate the historic town and make it a favorite day trip destination.
