Foodie Find: Timmy Ginger’s Sandwich Shop

There’s a new sandwich shop in town, and if you’re a fan of quality subs or sarnies or sangwiches or hoagies (whatever you call them), then Timmy Ginger’s is the place to try. Located on the corner of Pleasant Grove and Foothills Boulevard, TG’s serves up 32 specialty sandwiches (16 meat and 16 vegan), as well as build-your-own options, salads, sides, and a kids’ menu. It was nice to see a line of folks ordering (including some first responders) and dining both inside and out on the patio. I ordered a #2: brisket with creamy horseradish, coleslaw, bacon, and house dressing on a sweet roll (they offer seven bread options). I sat indoors and watched my beloved San Francisco Giants on the TV while uptempo music played over their sound system. The brisket was lean and flavorful, and the house-made coleslaw added a freshness to the meaty behemoth. The next day, I returned for another round, this time opting for one of the intriguing vegan options, the #18, with a decidedly un-vegan name: Hot Chicken. The menu lists it with hot chicken, bacon, avocado, provolone, house slaw, and “kicken sauce”—all of which are plant-based and decidedly delicious…easily one of the better vegan sandwiches I’ve had. Owner Tim, aka Timmy Ginger, goes the extra mile by not using things like prepackaged shredded lettuce and cheap cuts of meat. What’s more, he makes all the sauces in-house, including vegan mayonnaise. When the sandwich craving hits, stop by and grab one of Timmy Ginger’s (soon-to-be famous) specialty sandwiches—made fresh to order!
