Tell us about yourself and your foray into the world of fashion. I went to a British convent in the Himalayan foothills where I had a posh school uniform. A few times a year, however, I got to wear colored clothes, which launched my love for fashion. After moving to the U.S., I landed my first job as an image consultant at a high-end boutique and have been a stylist for 27 years. I’m not into trends but timeless pieces. I’m also not into quantity but quality and cost per wear. Since 2020, I’ve used Instagram for inspiration with a focus on positive aging. I’m 54, and in our youth-obsessed culture, women my age are practically invisible online and have been historically put out to pasture. We need to look at aging as an honor—what a privilege it is to have all this wisdom by just being here.

Describe your style. I get dressed based on how I'm feeling that day—whether it’s hyper feminine with heels and lots of delicate jewelry or more masculine with an oversized silhouette, brogues, and a hat.

Roz Kaur, Roseville, Senior Stylist for Anthropologie

Where do you draw inspiration from? Magazines, social media, the streets, film, music, art, galleries and museums, and travel—either physically or creatively through books and movies.

What’s the future of fashion? It will be all about mixing pieces in your closet. Wear whatever makes you feel good and own it. People have been overdressing as of late, even to go to the grocery store. And I say, why not? The pandemic has affected the way designers are looking at style. There’s still fantasy and aspiration, but I think we’ll see more practicality; lots of knits; pared down, matching separates that feel like the new suits; and oversized pieces.

Q&A

Must-have closet item: A trench coat.
Favorite designer: Currently, I’m loving everything Ganni.
Fashion icon: I love how Jenna Lyons, Diane Keaton, and Lauren Hutton put things together. Also, the originals: Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, and Jackie O.
Last stylish purchase: A Saint Laurent chunky chain-link necklace.
Best style tip: Embrace your shape. Once you know which silhouettes flatter you, filter trends ruthlessly.
Favorite local shop: I’m biased and will have to say Anthropologie!

Joshua Fraser, Folsom, Personal Stylist at JF Personal Styling

Tell us about yourself and your foray into the world of fashion. My passion is personal styling, which doesn’t feel like a job because it's fun! I started JF Personal Styling when I was a full-time student at American River College while working at Taco Bell. I started styling [after being inspired by] Alpha M., a respected fashion YouTuber who styles men. This led me to styling my friends and family the first year. [In college, I modeled] at a large photo shoot with many local models and photographers; after, I started styling local models and collaborating with realtors and brokers. My goal is to continue working with more fashion brands and do commercial work.

Describe your style. A mix of casual and business casual. Most days you’ll find me in a black dress polo from Banana Republic, Levi jeans, and a pair of Adidas Ultraboosts.

Joshua Fraser, Folsom, Personal Stylist at JF Personal Styling

Where do you draw inspiration from? Instagram, professional stylists, and magazines like Vogue.

What’s the future of fashion? It will come down to "less is more.” Everyone is wearing shorter, tighter fitting clothes now. Not just in size but also style of clothing. More people are favoring minimal designs with monotone colors. The majority of realtors I work with are looking for business casual outfits rather than full suits.

Q&A

Must-have closet item: Banana Republic’s dress polo makes me feel confident and is reasonably priced.
Favorite designer: John Elliot. His pieces are timeless and he designs clothes I can see myself in: simple and clean.
Fashion icon: Michael B. Jordan.
Last stylish purchase: Adidas Ultraboost DNA Python shoes. It's a great athletic fashion sneaker that you can wear with jeans or shorts.
Best style tip: For women, get comfortable and affordable slim jeans from Banana Republic Factory. For men, dry your clothes that are just a tad bit larger than you’d like at high heat.
Favorite local shop: For myself, Banana Republic Factory; for clients, Nordstrom Rack.

Sabrina Forscutt, Cameron Park, CEO and Lead Stylist at Sabrina Forscutt Styling, @sabrinaforscutt

Tell us about yourself and your foray into the world of fashion. After getting my degree in fashion merchandising, I started working in PR agencies in Los Angeles that specialize in celebrity gifting and then worked in celebrity styling. The fashion industry can be a toxic place, however, and when Hollywood shut down during the pandemic it allowed me to reevaluate what I wanted out of my career. I moved back to Cameron Park and started my own styling firm to help everyday people feel as confident in their wardrobe as my celeb clients did on red carpets. I also work with local fashion brands and share daily content on Instagram and Tik Tok. Post-pandemic, I’m excited to open a styling studio.

Describe your style. My daily style is casual with hints of dramatic flair. When it’s time to dress up, it becomes high-fashion editorial and dramatic. That said, I always dress according to my mood to express myself.

Sabrina Forscutt, Cameron Park, CEO and Lead Stylist at Sabrina Forscutt Styling

Where do you draw inspiration from? My surroundings, art, architecture, movies, films, and plays. With my clients, I try to get to know their lifestyle and personality so that their clothes match who they are.

What’s the future of fashion? With more people working from home there will be an overall shift to casual pieces. But Zoom meetings mean nicer but more comfortable looks so tops will be at the forefront of fashion. Small boutique clothing stores will need to focus more time and energy toward having strong e-commerce sites and social media. Department stores will need to find other services to offer.

Q&A

Must-have closet item: A black leather jacket.
Favorite designer: Christian Siriano for his all-around inclusivity and Christopher John Rogers for his bright colors, patterns, and gorgeous structured silhouettes.
Fashion icon: I don’t have one. I like to follow my own sense of style and interpret art and design to create my own vision.
Last stylish purchase: A beautiful floral lavender dress by Christopher John Rogers.
Best style tip: Always accessorize! Jewelry, shoes, and handbags can take an outfit from basic to high fashion. However, be careful not to over-accessorize.
Favorite local shop: Freestyle Clothing Exchange.

Tell us about yourself and your foray into the world of fashion. All I need for a good day is strong coffee to start, a cute outfit, and a whole lot of Jesus! There’s no doubt about it—I was born to shop. Growing up in Placerville, and after graduating with my degree in fashion merchandising, it was a natural choice to start my career as the personal stylist manager for the Nordstrom in Roseville when it opened in 2000. After 20 years at Nordstrom, Covid closed Nordstrom Sacramento’s doors forever. I was devasted but not done. I launched Closet Choreography (closetchoreography.com) in September of 2020 to show women how to think like a stylist, know what to buy, and how to put it all together effortlessly. As an independent personal stylist, I work one-on-one with clients locally and virtually, offering everything from a full closet detox, to shopping and digital lookbooks. I also post my #hautemama look of the day on Instagram alongside my stylist tips and tricks.

Describe your style. Approachable fashion and ageless style from Target to Chanel.

Where do you draw inspiration from? The feeling I get when I help someone put a look together that they feel good in and wouldn’t have thought of on their own.

Jennifer Sattler, El Dorado Hills, Personal Stylist and Fashion Blogger at Closet Choreography
