Steve Wallen has been a leader in the learn-to-swim industry for over 4 decades. He graduated from Chico State with a degree in Physical Education and a passion for the sport of swimming. While swimming at Chico State, Steve won back-to-back National Championships and set a national record in the 800 freestyle relay. After college, he knew he wanted to pursue a swim-focused career and began work as a coach and pool manager. In 1987, he started teaching swim lessons in his backyard swimming pool in Folsom and quickly saw the growth and demand. In 2008, he and his son Kaleb opened Steve Wallen Swim School in El Dorado Hills, their first indoor, year-round swim school, and in 2018 opened their second state-of-the-art facility in Roseville alongside their long-time swim instructor, Mel Amatulli. Steve Wallen's presence in the community continues to grow as his programs have taught over 30,000 students to swim, including generations of families in the Sacramento area. He now employs many of the children he taught to swim, which he describes as a surreal, full-circle moment in his career. Steve takes pride in supporting the community he’s lived in and loved for over 40 years, staying involved in community events and donating to local school and recreational activities. Steve and his wife Susy have 4 children and 5 grandchildren, and currently reside in El Dorado Hills with their dog, Hallie.
