New Businesses on the Block — February 2021

Family-owned BrainyZoo Toys (brainyzootoys.com), with an existing location at the Folsom Premium Outlets, opened a second storefront at 718 Sutter Street, Suite 103. Formerly known as Toys That Teach, the specialty store was founded in 1982 and sells carefully chosen toys that are creative, captivating, and challenging.

Temple Coffee Roasters (templecoffee.com)— a quality-focused, Sacramento-based coffee roaster and wholesale purveyor—is opening its eighth location in Folsom this year. The 1,750-square-foot space at 2776 East Bidwell Street, Suite 500, will feature ethically sourced coffee crafted with care, along with locally made pastries.

Pho Vegan (pho-vegan.com) opened a second location in Folsom (the first is in Rocklin) at 329 East Bidwell Street. The plant-based eatery serves a variety of noodle and rice dishes, including veggie chow fun, walnut “prawns,” and kung pao tofu.

Moonraker Brewing Co. (moonrakerbrewing.com) is opening a 16-acre project called Moonraker Mill House in Cameron Park. The new venture will include a taproom, private event area, farm-to-fork restaurant, and outdoor space, with long-term plans to add a wedding venue. The first phase is expected to be completed in late fall.

Nugget Markets (nuggetmarket.com) is opening a new store in West Roseville at 1509 Blue Oaks Boulevard. Family-owned and operated for over 90 years, the Northern California-based company is committed to offering guests both conventional and specialty products that satisfy the needs and desires of every lifestyle—from organic and vegan to local, Fair Trade, and more.

 A new restaurant is coming to Historic Folsom. Plank Craft Kitchen + Bar, owned by Rock-N-Fire and Trademark Pizza Co. owner Michael Sanson, is slated to open this spring at 608 Sutter Street.

Persimmon Art Gallery (persimmonartgallery.com)—sited at 13466 Lincoln Way in Auburn—is officially open. Tucked between Awful Annie’s and Joe Caribé, it features works in a myriad of mediums (painting, jewelry, mosaic, photography, fiber arts, ceramics, and more) from 16 local artists, in addition to gifts and greeting cards. Current hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day except Tuesday.

Stop by Bagel & Bean (bagelandbean.com) at 845 Twelve Bridges Drive, Suite 140, in Lincoln for bagels in fun flavors (Flamin’ Hot Cheetos, Oreo, and Fruity Pebbles), unique cream cheese selections (bacon maple, scallion, and Funfetti) specialty bagel sandwiches, and fresh-brewed java from Mast Coffee Co. (more drink options are coming soon!).

Locally based restaurant chain Steve’s Pizza (stevespizza.com) opened at 1840 Prairie City Drive, Suite 100, in Folsom last month. In addition to high-quality pies at affordable prices, the eatery offers Stubborn Soda, sandwiches, pastas, and more.

Cameron Park has a new sushi restaurant. Mikasa Asian Fusion (@mikasaasianfusion) is located at 3000 Green Valley Road, Suite B12, and features a variety of rolls (deluxe, deep-fried, baked, veggie, and raw), plus a kids’ menu, and entrées like Mongolian beef and Hawaiian chicken.
