The Bronze Age of Interior Design: Color of the Year 2021

My favorite time of year is upon us, but in addition to changing leaves and slow-cooked comfort foods, it also means the announcement of the Color of the Year. The Sherwin-Williams global color and design team researched and identified cultural trends that influence the way the world interacts with color; from those findings, they selected the strongest themes for the coming year and officially selected the Color of the Year (COTY). As a member of Sherwin-Williams Design Council, I’m excited to share the inside scoop with you.

The 2021 Color of the Year selection is Urbane Bronze SW 7048, a rich, dark brown with gray undertones that acts as an anchor, making us feel grounded, meditative, and serene.

The theme of this year’s campaign is all about creating sanctuary spaces within our homes. In response to COVID-19, many homeowners realize the importance of spaces that provide stability and warmth, which this ultra-sophisticated hue achieves. Rooted in nature, it’s extremely versatile and can be used in a variety of rooms as a neutral or bold accent.

Interiors aren’t the only place where Urbane Bronze provides a lasting impact, however. Exteriors can also benefit from the use of it as an accent for front doors, main body, and trim color. A contrast of a bright white trim and rustic wood accents will create a sophisticated yet approachable exterior palette that’s unique to the neighborhood. Landscape in shades of green or colorful flowers sing against the dramatic yet neutral scheme.

Undoubtedly refined but never restrained, we recommend this striking hue for creating contrast, accenting architecture, and providing visual interest to exteriors, bedrooms, living spaces, and even work-from-home areas.
As you can see, Urbane Bronze SW 7048 provides a grounding effect in many areas of the home. Where will you use Urbane Bronze in 2021?
