Fall for Community: Coming Together During COVID-19

Ever since the pandemic began, our ability to come together as a community has been curtailed for the most part. But leave it to the human imagination and creativity to come up with ways around what seems like an impossible hurdle, and you’ve got cleverly crafted events designed to keep us connected. We’ve found some such events that prove physical distancing doesn’t mean life comes to a standstill. Whether it be from our homes or safely in public, we can still partake in, support, and give back to our beloved communities.

The event on October 10 and 21 will allow you to drive by in your car and receive free helmets for the family.

Roseville BikeFest is back to spread the message that helmets save lives. Things will look a little different this year, and there actually won’t be any bikes—but there will be helmets (while supplies last)! The event on October 10 and 21 will allow you to drive by in your car and receive free helmets for the family. There will also be goodie bags for kids, and coupons for free bike safety inspections from local bike shops. roseville.ca.us/bikefest

The beloved Placer Artists’ Studios Tour is still going to take place this November (6–8 and 13-15). Participating artists will display their works virtually and there might even be open studio tours by appointment. This recurring event gives you the chance to meet with artists, see how they work with various mediums, peruse and purchase art, and enjoy some of Placer County’s finest creations. placerarts.org

Soroptimist is hosting an Online Fall Auction.

In lieu of Soroptimist International of Folsom/El Dorado Hills’ annual Destination Dinner fundraiser, they’re hosting an Online Fall Auction from October 1-4 to raise money for their Live Your Dream Award and Dream It, Be It programs—which help mentor at-risk high school-aged girls and provide funding for women to continue their education. Attendees will have a chance to virtually bid on various auction items like diamond jewelry, patio furniture, holiday baskets, etc. or make a monetary donation. charityauction.bid/sifedh

Run Rocklin is going virtual this year.

Run Rocklin is going virtual this year. How do you “run” virtually? Simple. Choose between three distances (5K, 12K, or half marathon), challenge your friends and family to sign up with you, and do your run/walk between October 25-November 8. You can even upload your results. The best part? You can run, jog, or walk on the road, on the trail, on the treadmill, at the gym, or on the track—and proceeds benefit the Matt Redding Foundation. runrocklin.com

Placer SPCA has resorted to hosting an online Watch Paw-ty on October 29th.

In light of all of their major fundraising events—namely Funny Bones; Woof, Wine & Dine; and Barktoberfest—being cancelled, Placer SPCA has resorted to hosting an online Watch Paw-ty on October 29 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. where they’ll share heartwarming stories of their adopted animals and premiere a video highlighting some of the animals who benefitted from the nonprofit’s Guardian Angel Program. Donations from the event will go toward said program, which provides necessary and life-saving procedures for animals, and also make up for the loss of over $100,000 in much-needed funds. Registration is free. event.gives/watchpawty
