Thru September 12, Blue Line Arts (bluelinearts.org) is hosting Off Center—an international ceramic competition featuring a collaboration of work between 43 artists hailing from 16 states. The diverse exhibit showcases the medium’s myriad themes—including craftsmanship, abstraction, and mankind’s relationship to earth—in pieces that run the gamut from playful to serious. The gallery is open Tuesday-Saturday from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. or by appointment.

Giraffe by Gustav Dentzel

A generous art gift of six beautifully carved, early American carousel animal sculptures by top makers from the golden age of carousels has arrived at the Crocker Art Museum (crockerart.org). The animals afford an opportunity to explore and appreciate the Philadelphia and Coney Island styles of carousel animal carving and will be available for viewing as soon as the museum reopens.

Artists and families are invited to make Placer County a little bit brighter by showing off their creativity at Arts Council of Placer County’s Household Art Challenge (placerarts.org). Make your own sculpture, based on monthly themes, from items you have around the house. When completed, submit a photo of your creation for a chance to win a prize.
