The Hot List: Some of Our Favorite Local Steaks

Calling all carnivores! Next time the craving for a sizzling steak hits, check out the places below for a meal that’s guaranteed to be a cut above the rest.

12-ounce Marbled Ribeye

You can rest assured that the 12-ounce Marbled Ribeye at The Independent in Placerville is always going to be tender, juicy, and cooked to your desired doneness (medium rare for me). Coated in a decadent peppercorn demi-glace with crispy onion strings on top, seasonal veggies, and a side (I recommend the truffle mac & cheese), it’s a dinner you won’t soon forget.

Prime Rib

Nothing is better than a perfectly seasoned Prime Rib dressed with creamy horseradish and au jus, alongside mashed potatoes and vegetables. The offering at Henry’s Steakhouse inside Red Hawk Casino is particularly praiseworthy, thanks to a quality cut of meat that’s dry-aged in-house. Talk about a carnivore’s ultimate comfort food.

Skirt Steak

Order the Skirt Steak at Sutter Street Steakhouse in Folsom and you’ll get an insanely succulent piece of meat—prepared in the restaurant’s high-heat steak broiler at temperatures in excess of 1,000°—that’s bursting with flavor. Topped with caramelized onions and served with arugula, garlic mashed potatoes, and herb compound butter, you’ll be craving it again immediately after the final forkful.

The dark wood, diamond-tufted booths, checkered floors, and polished brass at C. Knight’s Steakhouse in El Dorado Hills provide the perfect backdrop for the food that awaits hungry patrons. Their dry-aged, grain-fed, sirloin center cut of Wagyu is particularly pleasing. Served on a 500° plate and packed with an unforgettable smoky flavor, it’s wickedly tender and worth every penny.

Grilled Filet Mignon

Next time you’re at The Chef’s Table in Rocklin, try the Grilled Filet Mignon (served with some eclectic accompaniments like cream of grilled corn, orange-glazed pork belly, and nectarines). Often considered the “King of Steaks,” the version here truly does reign supreme. Lean yet luscious, with a buttery texture, it’s so tender that a knife is almost optional. Do your taste buds a favor and order it pronto.

Marinated Bistro Steak

I’m not sure about you, but Marinated Bistro Steak always sounds like a delicious idea. Order it at Land Ocean New American Grill and you’ll get a hearty portion of fork-tender shoulder meat with a decadent blue cheese butter, sautéed asparagus, and butter-whipped potatoes that are equally as indulgent. Paired with a glass of full-bodied red wine, you’ll be feeling fine.
