The CEO and executive director of local nonprofit Stand Up Placer was recognized on BBC’s list of 100 Women 2018, which honors 100 influential and inspiring females from all over the world. Jenny Davidson was one of only eight women from the U.S. on the 2018 list.

SoCal restaurant chain Burger Lounge is opening its second Sacramento-area location in the Fountains at Roseville. The burgers are made with grass-fed beef and local produce, and we’ll be trying them pronto!

Attention vegan foodies! Locally owned Vegan Plate is now open at 1821 Douglas Boulevard, Suite C-5, in Roseville. The eatery has a wide variety of menu items, including a Hawaiian teriyaki bowl, tangy orange “chicken," garlic fried rice, buffalo cauliflower tacos, jackfruit in a bun, pizza, pasta, and more.

Rocklin’s Whitney Ranch project has two new homebuilders getting in on the action. Toll Brothers and The New Home Company both purchased plots of land to begin developing homes on shortly.

Lovisa, a jewelry store with “ready-to-wear prices,” has opened in the Westfield Galleria at Roseville near the second-floor dining area. The brand is new to the Sacramento area but has shops in 15 countries.

For exceptional economic development, the Greater Sacramento Economic Council awarded Folsom with the 2018 Paving the Way Award. It recognized the Greater Folsom Partnership and its efforts toward achieving the region's lowest unemployment rate and highest median income.

Oakwater American Bistro opened in Granite Bay’s Quarry Ponds Town Center and features farm-to-fork fare, house-made pasta, and perfectly cooked meats. Our mouths are watering just thinking about it!

Rocklin City Council honored Scott Yuill for his long-standing work within the community after he stepped down late last year. Yuill served on the council for 12 years with three terms as the city's mayor.

Sutter Health opened a walk-in clinic in east Roseville, much to the delight of residents everywhere. The new clinic allows both drop-in visits and appointments for everything from routine health screenings to strep throat swabs. All patients are accepted, and the goal is to open two more walk-in clinics in Rancho Cordova and Sacramento by mid-2019.

Popular Sacramento bakery Pushkin’s is planning an additional locale in Roseville. The café is loaded with vegan and gluten-free options, and the new location at 1220 Roseville Parkway, Suite 140, will serve sandwiches and salads along with their usual fare.

Members of Vista del Lago High School's girls' basketball program put together 16 no-sew blankets that they then donated to the Sacramento Children’s Home.

In a special meeting, the Folsom City Council selected Kerri Howell as Folsom’s mayor for 2019. Howell served as mayor in both 2012 and 2014, as well as vice mayor for three non-consecutive years. In the same meeting, Sarah Aquino was selected as the city’s vice mayor for the same period of time. Aquino was a member of the Board of Education of the Folsom Cordova Unified School District from 2014-201

Congratulations are in order for Vista del Lago High School seniors Siena Hansen and Sierra Stewart who created a new flag to represent the city of Folsom, which was unanimously approved late last year.

A new childcare center may be coming to Folsom as early as this summer. KidsPark, which already has locations in Rocklin and Sacramento, offers hourly childcare, preschool services, and private parties, which are popular with the young children. The new franchise will be located at 1111 Riley Street.

After serving on the El Dorado Hills Fire Board, firefighter Maurice Johnson has been named the new fire chief of the El Dorado Hills Fire Department. He began the job on January 1 and was previously the assistant fire chief at Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District.

Mercy Medical Group now has pediatric offices at 1561 Creekside Drive, Suite 150, in Folsom. More than 5,000 square feet of space have been allocated for care, along with 12 exam rooms to make sure there’s plenty of available aid for children.

Local youth—from elementary school to high school freshmen—who needed a little help during the holiday season were treated to Santa’s Shopping Spree last December. Fifty-five children from Powerhouse Ministries, Folsom’s Hope, and Mercy Housing were paired with a community volunteer who helped them roam the Target in Folsom to purchase up to $100 of necessities for the season.

Kimie’s Kritters Pet Rescue—an animal welfare organization in Rescue—received a $10,000 grant courtesy of Petco’s Holiday Wishes program, thanks to Folsom resident Terra Kingsmore. The wife and mom of two submitted a story about how her daughters begged for a dog through presentations, extra chores, and various dog-sitting jobs to prove they could handle it. The family now owns two dogs, and, in addition to the grant, they received a $1,000 shopping spree to spoil their pups at Petco.

WalletHub ranked Folsom 12th in the state on finding a job. It came in second for housing affordability and median annual income, and lowest in unemployment for residents with a bachelor’s degree or higher.

After hearing about the heroic actions of Feather River Hospital employees who risked their lives to save patients while their own homes and places of work burned down during the Car Fire, Marshall Medical Center and Marshall Foundation for Community Health employees set up a fund to help support the Feather River employees. Marshall volunteers and employees generously gave $11,988, Marshall Medical Center matched $5,000, and Marshall Foundation matched another $2,500 for a total of $19,448.

Assistance League of Sierra Foothills members donated more than 100 coats and pajamas to El Dorado County Office of Education. The much-appreciated items will be distributed to the region’s “neediest,” like children who are in home-based programs.

Priya Indian Cuisine—a new Indian restaurant sited at 3101 Zinfandel Drive, Suite 134, in Rancho Cordova—offers plenty of vegetarian and healthy options that stem from all over India.

Folsom Cordova Unified School District has partnered with Johnson Controls to help convert all of the lighting infrastructure within eight schools to be energy efficient with new intelligent LED fixtures. The net savings from electricity usage over the next 20 years is projected to be $4.8 million.

Bennett’s kitchen • bar • market—slated to open next month at 1595 Eureka Road in Roseville—is a 4,500-square-foot restaurant that features a full-service bar with handcrafted cocktails; a market with grab-and-go meals to be enjoyed at home or on the climate-controlled, 100-seat patio; a cut-to-order counter with meats, cheeses, and artisan bread; and a full-service Peet’s Coffee with house-made pastries.  Bennett’s also has an expansive wine selection to be enjoyed on or off premise.  Featured menu items range from grilled steaks to vegetarian and gluten-free offerings.

Through February 3, Roseville water customers are invited to enter the "Sustain the Gains" contest, which educates the public about the city's Environmental Utilities’ Cash for Grass program and rewards the grand prize winner with a low water-use front yard makeover. Contestants are required to submit an essay explaining why they should win and why water/drought-tolerant landscaping is important to them.
