The El Dorado Arts Council (EDAC) is excited to showcase the most recent project from artist Kim Abeles—noted for her social, political, and feminist works and for creating community-based projects that explore biography, geography, and the environment. During her one-month residency at the Institute of Forest Genetics, she worked with students from Independence High School to create the exhibit, Resilience. Sited at EDAC’s Confidence Lab (487 Main Street) in Placerville, the project is a sight to be seen, as it examines and reflects the idea of resilience. The students were excited to partake in such a complex project with an influential artist. "The arts, arts education, and art creation makes for a better person. It helps to expand one’s mind and create a more analytical, creative, and flexible outlook in life," explains EDAC Program Manager Andrew Vonderschmitt. Resilience is open Thursdays through Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; admission is free.
