What's Up in Folsom and El Dorado Hills, December 2018
FLB Entertainment Center—owned by Wally and Sue Dreher since 1979—celebrated 40 years in business on October 26 with food samples, raffle prizes, a DJ, and a live performance by Island of Black & White. The Dreher family has always been a big supporter of the Folsom community by giving regularly to local schools, churches, and fundraisers.
The new Folsom Parks & Recreation Director is Lorraine Poggione, who has been serving the city since 2002 as the landscaping and lighting manager. Poggione was responsible for renovations that improved water conservation and will now manage various complexes in addition to 48 parks, 50 miles of recreational trails, and special events.
The next local company to go green is Folsom Lake RV, which has invested close to $1 million improving the Highway 50 facility. Solar shade structures will provide employees and customers with shade and charging stations while also offsetting the electricity the dealership consumes. Other improvements like new fencing, roof safety harness systems, and two more vehicle lifts were added as well.
Carl Sundahl Elementary School in Folsom recently hosted a ribbon cutting for the now completed $20.4 million expansion and modernization. Portable buildings were replaced with permanent structures, a kindergarten building was built, the library and media center were improved, a state-of-the-art playground was installed, and designated pick-up and drop-off lanes were added to the expanded parking lot.
Fifteen area Dutch Bros raised money for the family of fallen Sacramento Sheriff’s Deputy Mark Stasyuk earlier this year, resulting in $62,647. Stasyuk is survived by his wife, mother, father, and sister, and the money raised will go toward supporting his family.
Another taco joint is everyone’s fulfilled wish. Flakos Takos, a taqueria chain from Elk Grove, opened another (and much closer) location in Cameron Park. The locally owned business is sited at 3326 Coach Lane in the Cameron Park Drive Plaza and offers $1 tacos on Tuesdays (exclusions apply), plus mulitas, tortas, and more.
Popular food truck brand Authentic Street Taco has opened a brick-and-mortar restaurant at 875 Embarcadero Drive in El Dorado Hills. The menu includes all your favorites: tacos, quesadillas, and burritos. We hear their catering is exceptional, too!
Looking for Korean barbecue close to home? After an extensive renovation of the IHOP located at 2216 Sunrise Boulevard, Gangnam Ave. is ready to make your taste buds smile. There will be an all-you-can-eat setup where guests can cook various meats on small grills at their table.
Home for the Holidays, the Gallery at 48 Natoma’s latest exhibit, features watercolors from Rod Williams, sculptures by Judith Monroe, and photography from Boni Canning. The Community Gallery at 40 Natoma has over 100 photographs on display from the annual Folsom Focus Photography Contest.
A new proposed merger of El Dorado Savings Bank and PacWest Bancorp of Los Angeles will allow El Dorado branches to offer business lending services while also creating long-term value for stockholders of both companies.
City Wide Property Services, a shopping center maintenance company of Sacramento, has relocated to a much bigger office space at 3054 Gold Canal Drive in Rancho Cordova. The newly remodeled 30,000-square-foot building has plenty of room for different departments, which should now give owner Albert Rodriguez room for 10 years of growth.
Locally owned and operated Boulevard 41 Wood Fired Pizza at 4364 Town Center Boulevard in the El Dorado Hills Town Center is officially open. They have plenty of signature pizzas and salads crafted by culinary experts, 41 self-pour beers on tap, and much more.
Three Girl Scouts created a mosaic of a mustang at Marina Village Middle School’s outdoor lunch tables. Jackie Fennessy, Willamina Fleming, and Jessica Dean glued more than 4,000 pieces into the shape of the school’s mascot. The project earned each of them the Girl Scout Silver Award, which is the highest award a Cadette can earn.
A new park will soon be developed at Bass Lake, thanks to the El Dorado Hills Community Services District. The 142-acre land parcel will be home to a regional park with a full disc golf course, sports fields and courts, and a trail system.
SUM Bible College and Theological Seminary has made El Dorado Hills its permanent home by purchasing the buildings at 1107 and 1101 Investment Boulevard. The religious university is planning to make El Dorado Hills its main campus and keep their 40 other satellite sites around the U.S. Up to 300 students could be taking classes at the EDH site next fall.

The Folsom Historical Society acquired the Howard Sr. and Mabel Chan house at 917 Sutter Street in Folsom in 2017 and is planning to restore the building and open the Folsom Chinese Heritage Museum by 2021.
