What's Up: Roseville, Granite Bay & Rocklin; November 2018

According to WalletHub, Roseville is the 10th best city in California to raise a family. Opportunities for recreation and fun, education, health and safety, affordability, and socioeconomic environment rankings all played a part in the city’s final score of 74.95. Rocklin ranked 13th, and Lincoln ranked 35th.

100+ Women Who Care Placer County recently donated $10,525 to the ALS Association. This group of women meets quarterly and individually donates $100 to make a huge impact within the community. Their next event is on November 8 at Randy Peter’s Catering & Event Center at 6 p.m.

The Wildlife Care Association (WCA) is looking for pictures of local birds for their annual Fall Photo Contest. Submit your photo on the WCA’s Facebook page through a private message between now and December 31.

Blue Line Arts is seeking submissions for the following exhibits: Crocker-Kingsley Art Competition, Obsessed, and Fake It! The application deadline is December 6. For more info, visit bluelinearts.org/call-to-artists.

Loomis residents have a new Type 1 structure engine at their home station. In addition, South Placer Fire District Station 28 is changing its number to 18.

Rocklin City Council hired a new city clerk, Mona Forster. Forster is filling Barbara Ivanusich’s shoes and is sure to continue improving Rocklin during her employment.

Placer Community Foundation’s Giving Circle recently donated $40,000 to Placer County nonprofits that provide valuable services for the region’s most vulnerable and at-risk youth, including A Touch of Understanding, Compassion Planet, and McLaughlin Theatre Company. Free First Saturdays at the Museum, a program hosted at the Sierra College Natural History Museum, focuses on indigenous cultures of Northern California this month. Bring your walking shoes and come ready to learn from 10 a.m. to noon on November 3.

Getting around town via public transportation just got a lot easier with Placer County Transit’s new app called Next Bus and website (placer.ca.gov/transit). The program provides real-time notification of buses to ensure you always know exactly when yours is slated to arrive.

Placer SPCA’s new Adoption & Education Center is now open! Their permanent home at 200 Tahoe Avenue in Roseville embodies the best in animal welfare practices, including spacious condos and home-like environments.

Rocklin resident Sheri Chapman was unanimously appointed as Rocklin’s new city attorney this fall. Most recently, Chapman served as interim director of human resources for Placer County.

In memory of Mary Paolini Fischer, Placer Community Foundation donated its first-ever horse welfare grant of $10,000 to Horses’ Honor, a nonprofit that assists senior horses in need. The money will be used to ensure all rescue horses receive proper nourishment, veterinary services, dental care, and more.

Fairytale Town’s winter hours begin November 1. They’re open Thursday-Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Weekday admission is $5 per person; weekends and holidays are $6. Children under 12 months are free.
