The 10 Spot: Celebrate Halloween

1) Costumes, games, education, and fun are to be found at Healthy Halloween on October 28 from 2-5 p.m. at Quail Business Park in Folsom. Highlights include an inflatable obstacle course, a magician, princess makeovers, bounce houses, costume contests (human and pet), carnival games and prizes, and healthy alternatives to traditional Halloween treats. folsomhealthyhalloween.org  

2) Brace yourself for some fun at El Dorado Hills Town Center’s Halloween Spooktacular from 3-6 p.m. on October 31. Pumpkin Nights

3) The dazzling Pumpkin Nights returns to Auburn’s Gold Country Fairgrounds with multi-sensory Halloween displays and eight “pumpkin lands” featuring over 3,000 hand-carved pumpkins and funkins. The outdoor event runs from October 17-November 4 and also includes seasonal beverages and treats, a screening of Coco, meet and greets with pumpkin artists, fire dancers, and more. pumpkinnights.com/auburn 

All Nations Halloween Fun Run

4) Stroll, walk, or run through beautiful trails at the All Nations Halloween Fun Run beginning at Shingle Springs Drive on October 20. You can also enjoy a BBQ lunch with featured speaker and gold medal Olympian, Billy Mills. There will be shirts, medals, and prizes for best costumes. Hangtown Music Festival

5) For a once-in-a-lifetime musical experience, head to the Hangtown Music Festival from October 25-28 at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds. The family-friendly destination features night shows, Halloween costume themes, parades, craft beer, wine, artisanal cuisine, art and craft vendors, pumpkin carving, a kids’ zone, and an impressive lineup of musical artists. hangtownfestival.com 


6) Bring the little ones to Historic Folsom on October 27 for FestiFall and Costume Contest from 1-4 p.m. Engage in trick-or-treating at local merchants and enjoy jump houses, games, and prizes at the Wool and Sutter Street parking lot. 7) The Rocklin Historical Society is providing a rare glimpse into the lives of historic residents with an entertaining and educational Voices of the Passed Cemetery Tour of Rocklin Cemetery with roles acted out by society members on October 28 (10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m.). Haunted Hangtown Ghost Tour

8) Haunted Hangtown Ghost Tour beckons you to communicate with spirits in historic Placerville with the latest ghost-hunting equipment. Explore stories of buildings and back streets with a paranormal investigator, discover EVPs, orbs, and other energy, and stop at Cozmic Café, the courthouse, Cuppa Coffee, Hangman’s Tree, and Cary House. 9) Nightmare Forest takes you through a “web of fears” via a pitch-black haunted forest trail through historic Gold Rush country. Creatures lurk at every corner beginning at Crystal Lake parking lot (off Highway 49 between Plymouth and El Dorado) every Friday and Saturday in October from 7-10 p.m. A tamer children’s “web of fun” has a pumpkin patch, animal exhibit, candy, and photo ops every Saturday from noon-4 p.m. weboffears.com


10) For a close encounter of the electrifying kind, head to Roseville Utility Exploration Center’s Count Watts’ Spooktacular on October 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fight voltage vampires, take a thrilling walk through Phantom Energy House, and knock out energy waste.
