Placerville Recreation and Parks: Gold Fever

Take a guided tour of the seldom seen Priest Mine—a historic mine hand dug 170 years ago by Hangtown’s earliest Gold Rush miners—on September 1 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Live music and photo opportunities with famous Old West characters are also part of the fun. Tickets are $4 per person.

Gold Bug Park and Mine can be enjoyed seven days a week through October 31 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Pack a picnic, take a relaxing hike, check out Hattie’s Gold Rush Museum, enter the 352-foot-deep Gold Bug Mine, find riches in the gem panning trough, or visit the Joshua Hendy Stamp Mill and working blacksmith shop. Admission and parking are free.

Entertaining and educational guided tours are available for both schools and private groups. Enjoy an alfresco feast or host a party along the stream at one of several picnic areas, take your group on a self-guided audio tour of Gold Bug Mine, or try your luck at gem panning. Note: Large groups are encouraged to rent the pavilion.
