Dinner and a movie is so passé. Surprise your valentine, or galentine, with something off the beaten chocolate and roses path this year. We scoured the region and handpicked 5 Valentine’s Events that are sure to bring a smile to your special someone’s face. 


Port Wine and Chocolate Lover’s Weekend. February 10-11. Old Sugar Mill. Valentine’s Dinner Train. February 14. West Sacramento. Hop on board the Sacramento RiverTrain for a cozy, three-course meal and complimentary water and soda (wine available for purchase), as you leisurely ride through open farmland, over the Fremont Bridge, and through the Yolo County Wildlife Refuge on a 14-mile, approximately three-hour journey. Folsom Lake Symphony Presents Passion and Drama. February 10. Harris Center. For a special Valentine’s Day, enjoy Barber’s Adagio for Strings, Haydn’s Concertante, and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6, “Pathétique.” A quartet of principal symphony musicians will also perform as soloists for the Haydn work: Anita Fetsch Felix (violin), Alexandra Roedder (cello), Curtis Kidwell (oboe), and Jill Dowlat (bassoon). Art Mix: Love Boat. February 8. Crocker Art Museum. Drinks ($6 specials all night), yacht rock, and lots of laughs come together at this Art Mix designed to get you ready for Valentine’s Day! Dress like your favorite celeb from the ’70s or ’80s, and enjoy live performances by the Sacramento Mermaids, dancing to the beats of DJ Shaun Slaughter, a Valentine’s Day Massacre Card-Making Workshop, and more. Race for Justice Valentine Run/Walk. February 10. Country Club Plaza Mall. This kid-, canine-, and stroller-friendly event supports Legal Services of Northern California and their mission to help individuals and families keep a roof over their heads, put food on their tables, and give them access to health care. Participants are encouraged to wear their best V-Day-inspired attire and partake in the 1.8-mile (untimed) course or the four-mile course; after, enjoy refreshments, entertainment, vendors, and a festive awards ceremony.
