RISE Advanced Body Composition Testing and Personal Training
Bo and Tess Bowthorpe
Folsom, 916-612-1980

Describe your business. Did you find it, or did it find you?

RISE means “rebuild and increase strength (with) exercise.” I’m a personal trainer, and over the past 25-plus years have used my experience as a physical therapist aide to focus on rehabilitation. Dealing with and having recovered from previous injuries and sports-related surgeries gives proof to my clients that exercise, movement and strength training are important. Our business focus recently shifted to advanced body composition testing. With the help of technology, we have a tool to accurately measure an individual’s amount and percentage of body fat, pounds of muscle in limbs and trunk, hydration levels, metabolic rate and more—all with minimal disrobing, and no getting dunked or pinched. Results are discussed emphasizing a mind-set of achieving better overall health and seeing the silver lining, regardless of the curveballs. We’re mobile and are fortunate to have local businesses—like Orangetheory Fitness—open their doors to include us. The business found us. My wife, Tess, was enjoying retirement and tackling projects on her bucket list, including helping me get through a body transformation contest. As the contest drew closer, it required more frequent monitoring of my body fat loss and muscle gain. The timing aligned that the advanced body composition testing we use at RISE came into the picture. It took less than a minute, and Tess was impressed that it detailed more than scale weight. After much research, conversations with corporate headquarters and training, we now operate as a team with this equipment. Anyone on a diet, looking to get in shape, or trying to maximize performance should know that weight and clothing size are only part of the story.
