It can be difficult picking a nonprofit to donate to, but with Big Day of Giving (BDOG), you can put those worries aside. Their website covers 600 local nonprofits with information about the organization and its needs. Once you’ve chosen one (or more) to support, wait until midnight on May 4 to donate, as this is the main event for BDOG. For 24 hours, donations can be made online and will be tallied as the day goes on. This community-driven event is only in its third year and has already raised over $16 million. “Everyone whose life is touched by the important work that nonprofits in the Sacramento region do benefit from BDOG. They make our neighborhoods vibrant, empower young people, protect our landscapes, and serve our most vulnerable populations,” explains Sacramento Region Community Foundation Marketing Associate Vasey Coman. Local nonprofits participating include the Folsom Historical Society and Friends of Lakes Folsom and Natoma, and some have activities happening the day of. Locals are encouraged to donate locally, in any amount, as the benefits are often seen first-hand. “Every time someone in our community makes a gift to a cause they love, there’s a reason to be joyful and celebrate, so we expect to do a lot of celebrating during BDOG on May 4!” says Coman. —Emily Peter
