Folsom Parks and Recreation

 Sports and Activities

Folsom Parks and Recreation offers a variety of programs that introduce kids (ages two and older) to basic activity skills. Classes include soccer, taekwondo, dance, tennis and basketball. The Folsom Zoo offers Storytime at 10:30 a.m. on the fourth Thursday of every month—featuring special animal puppets and an introduction to a live animal—while the Folsom Sports Complex offers Little Friends Open Gym, a drop-in playtime for preschoolers from 10 a.m. to noon on Mondays.

Fun Factory

For 20 years, excellent teachers have made this program—which follows the FCUSD instructional calendar (except staff development days) and includes daily activities like small-group stations, arts and crafts, carpet time for songs and stories, outdoor exercise, and a snack break—so popular. Classes for four-year-olds are held Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and Tuesdays and Thursdays for three-year-olds; classrooms are located at the Folsom Community Center and at the Folsom Sports Complex. Theme days, holiday celebrations, and occasional off-site field trips are held throughout the year.

Kindergarten Readiness

The Hinkle Creek Nature Center provides a unique setting for this program whose curriculum is focused on preparing students for grade school with social and academic skills.  Ms. Aileen encourages kindness in the classroom, and helps students become good citizens as they learn academic skills like pre-reading, alphabet sequence and phonics, plus verbalization of facts and concepts. Classes are held Monday through Thursday each week starting in September and continuing through May; students must turn four by September 1 to register.

Visit the classrooms while learning more about Fun Factory and Kindergarten Readiness at an Open House on March 1 from 4-6 p.m. Registration for the 2017 school year takes place from 5:30-7 p.m. on March 8 at the Folsom Sports Complex.
