Foodie Find: Way Back Bakery in El Dorado

Aug 29, 2016 09:39AM ● By David Norby

Part of the appeal of Way Back Bakery is in its name. Not only that it’s located way back off the street (tucked behind shops, through a lovely little garden), but also because its shabby chic, colorful décor and delectable baked goods—made from quality, fresh ingredients—takes you back to a time when things were simpler…and way more enjoyable. En-tering makes you feel like you’re stepping into Grandma’s kitchen, where you know you’ll be greeted with a smile and delicious treats. For three years now, Owner Alisa Smith has built a name for herself with her homemade cookies, muffins, custom cakes that are almost too pretty to eat, and unique variety of seasonal scones that sell out daily. These aren’t your crumbly, biscuit-like bricks some places produce; Smith’s scones are soft, fluffy and chewy on the inside with a perfectly golden crunch outside. Their newest flavor, a Lemon Rosemary Scone with Lavender Glaze, is simply divine. Breaking it open, you’ll see fresh rosemary flecked throughout and real lavender flowers atop. The brightly tart lemon pairs wonderfully with the earthy, herby rosemary, and both are rounded out with the floral sweetness of lavender glaze. Talk about a classic, timeless treat that takes you down memory lane. Way Back Bakery, 6211 Pleasant Valley Road, Unit C, El Dorado. 530-626-1900.
