Don’t miss the Cameron Park Country Fest at Christa McAuliffe Park on September 10 from 3-8 p.m. featuring music by Robby James and the Streets of Bakersfield and the Kenny Frye Band, a BBQ competition, fun zones, vendors, food and more.

Cameron Park residents are invited to clean out junk from their garage, or get rid of unwanted yard clippings and tree trimmings at a  Clean-Up Day on September 17 in the Camerado Springs Middle School parking lot from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Cameron Park Fire Explorers and Snowline Hospice will be onsite. No commercial waste, oil, batteries, tires, rocks, dirt/concrete, large appliances or hazardous waste; donations accepted.

Sell your treasures or hunt for new ones at the Community Yard Sale and Mommy Market (& Daddy Too!) on September 17 at the Cameron Park Community Center from 8 a.m. to noon.

Sign your little ones up for baby ballet, hula, taekwondo, gymnastics, tennis lessons or Soccer Tot (ages 3-5). There’s still time to register for NFL Flag Youth Football; games are on Saturday afternoons for grades 2-8, and each player receives an NFL football team jersey and flags.

For teens and adults, classical guitar, ukulele, yoga, Zumba, ballroom dance, beginning computer classes and much more are available.

The Master Gardeners present “Putting Your Garden to Bed” on September 14 from 9 a.m. to noon.  For more details, call 530-621-5512.

Mature adults are invited to the 50+ Room on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for games like Mexican train, pinochle, hand and foot, or cribbage. A Senior Nutrition Lunch program takes place Mondays and Fridays at the Community Center from noon to 12:30 p.m.; suggested donation of $3. Game Day on September 27 at 10 a.m. promises to be a fun time. Classes like Tai Chi for Better Balance, Chair Yoga and Medicare 101 are also available.

HOOP IT UP

As summer winds down, it’s time to hoop it up with the Placerville Recreation Department! The 2017 Youth Basketball program—provides a fun experience where sportsmanship and teamwork are emphasized. Players attend one practice and one game per week (held at El Dorado High School and neighboring schools; eight total games), January through mid-March. All divisions (except Junior) play on Saturdays. Schedules will be posted online at teamsideline.com/placerville.

BOYS AND GIRLS DIVISIONS

Pee Wee: Kindergarten or 5 years old

Pee Wee: Grades-1-2 or 6-7 years old

Biddy: Grades 3-4 or 8-9 years old

Elementary: Grades 5-6 or 10-11 years old

Junior: Grades 7-8 or 12-13 years old

FORMAT

Leagues generally consist of two halves. Teams are placed into divisions (in an attempt to keep competition as equal as possible); the first half of the season is used to seed teams and, if necessary, teams will be realigned at the halfway point. With the conclusion of the second half of the season, winners of the Biddy League receive individual trophies, and all players in the Pee Wee leagues receive participation trophies.

COACHES

As always, the program’s success depends on dedicated parent volunteers to coach more than 80 teams. If interested in volunteering as a coach or assistant coach, contact the Placerville Recreation Department. As a “thank you,” the head coach’s child  will receive free program registration.

Sign up for discounted “early bird registration” by September 22 at 4 p.m.; the deadline for standard registration is October 27 at 4 p.m.
