Coloma Club a Sprawling Cafe time in Lotus, Califonia

Cheeseburger & Fries

Foie gras, escargot, 1982 Chateau Blahblahblah Grand Cru…not at Coloma Club; fine white linens, crystal Champagne flutes, pinkies in the air…not at Coloma Club; valet parking for your Lamborghini…nope, not at Coloma Club.

Bacon cheeseburger with fries, grilled chicken smothered in mushrooms, Coors Light, plastic yard chairs, homemade salt and pepper shakers, a box of free books on the patio? Now that’s the Coloma Club! What else might you find? Bikers, rafters, families who spent the day panning for gold, seniors having a glass of wine and a good time, 20-somethings grabbing a cold beer, and possibly a guy on a horse in the parking lot.

Coloma Club is a sprawling café, saloon and dance/pool hall situated along Highway 49. The weathered wooden façade pays respect to the Gold Rush history and Old West ways of the area. As most of you know (or should know), way back in ’48 (1848 that is) ample amounts of gold were discovered just down the road from Coloma Club, and the subsequent influx of people (and money) played a huge role in the history of our state (even inspiring the name for a really awesome football team that just came off a terrific season…wink wink).

The casual joint serves up home-style, classic American eats for breakfast, lunch and dinner with a menu that features everything from omelets and pancakes to roast beef sandwiches, fettuccine Alfredo and chicken fried steak.

The cheeseburger was straightforward, flavorful and included all of the typical fixings, while the grilled chicken breast arrived smothered with a multitude of mushrooms—they seriously aren’t joking about the mushrooms…delish. Most meals come with French fries or a salad. A large patio offers ample space for sizable parties, and the extensive saloon and pool/dance hall provides plenty of opportunities for shuffling your boots, sinking an eight ball, or just lounging with a cold one.

Stop by Coloma Club next time you’re out that way. Don’t expect nothin’ fancy…just a good time and a full belly.
