City of Roseville Suspected Burglar Arrested, Property Recovered

Dec 29, 2015 12:55PM ● By David Norby
At about 2:45 p.m. Sunday, December 27, officers responded to a vehicle burglary that had just occurred in the parking lot of a fitness center in the 2500 block of Eureka Road.  Someone had smashed a car window and stole a woman's purse.  Within minutes, the victim's bank cards were used to buy items at nearby stores.  A patrol officer immediately began investigating, and with the help of citizen witnesses and the stores where the fraudulent transactions had been made,  identified a suspect.

The next night, patrol officers served a search warrant at the suspect's apartment and found most of the victim's stolen property.    Helen Marie Meza, age 34 of Roseville, was arrested on suspicion of burglary, identity theft (fraudulently using the victim's stolen bank cards), and other related charges.  She's in custody in the Placer County Jail on $40,000 bail.

Fitness center parking lots and trailheads are favorite hunting grounds for thieves.  Criminals are well aware that many people leave their purses, wallets and other valuables in their cars while they work out.  Please don't ever leave these items in your unattended vehicle, anytime, anywhere.  Leave your valuables at home, keep them with you, or lock them in a locker.  It can take a long time for victims to correct their financial records and clean up their credit history after their credit cards are compromised.
