There are plenty of reasons to visit Amador County—Plymouth in particular—and Marlene & Glen’s “Dead Fly” Diner is yet another. Already a well-established local favorite, if you don’t already know about the Dead Fly then you’ll be glad we told you.

Located on the corner of Main Street and Highway 49, Marlene & Glen’s is a genuine piece of local charm that’s full of real home-style cookin’. Give yourself at least 10 minutes to read through the huge menu—it features every type of omelet, benedict and scramble under the sun, plus flapjacks, French toast, burgers, sandwiches and salads. Whether in the mood for breakfast or lunch, they have you covered.

When my husband and I visited for Sunday brunch, the spacious dining room was full, the kitchen was hoppin’, and the staff was friendly and smiling. I ordered the blueberry and cream cheese stuffed French toast, while my other half opted for the Plymouth Miner’s Special Omelet with hash browns and a biscuit and gravy.

My French toast was perfection. The fresh blueberry and cream cheese filling was to die for, and a generous topping of in-season strawberries and canopy of whipped cream only added to the fruity, indulgent goodness. My husband’s omelet was generously stuffed with ham, bacon, onions, thick cut mushrooms, Swiss and cheddar cheese, and the hash browns were truly golden brown as requested.

The winning item of the day, however, was the biscuit. A great biscuit is the mark of a great cook, and Marlene & Glen’s are divine. You won’t find heavy hockey pucks here, no sir—you’ll discover flaky, fluffy and delicious, with sausage gravy that’s packed with sagey goodness.

There’s no style like home-style—you’ll never cook food as good as this in your own kitchen—so drop in and let Marlene & Glen feed you right! Just don’t come in a hurry—you’ll want to take your time…sit back, relax and savor the food and your surroundings.
