If backyard-style barbecue, exciting games and live country music sound like a good ol’ time, head to the Cameron Park Community Foundation’s inaugural Cameron Park Country Fest on August 15 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Created to help strengthen the community and modeled after the old-fashioned picnics of the past, this celebration of gold country roots updates old-time ways with witty and contemporary twists. With no entry fee and only nominal charges for some activities, organizer Yvette Ashlock shares her excitement. “It’s a perfect opportunity to have some great family fun without spending a lot of money.” Enter or judge a BBQ competition, browse local shops and art vendors, enjoy demonstrations, jam to live music, compete in the redneck arena, enjoy the kids’ zone and enjoy barbecue eats. Headliners include local country talent Stephan Hogan, Nashville recording artist Buck Ford, and the foot stomping rockin’ Cripple Creek Band.
