Ask the Expert: Adverting Memory Loss in Seniors

Jul 29, 2015 11:57AM ● By Style

Q: Are there specific preventative measures to avert memory loss, especially for seniors?

A: Dementia—the advancement of memory loss—is a set of symptoms associated with diseases that affect the brain. Eating a healthy diet, being physically active and staying socially connected prevents memory loss. Brain exercises like crossword puzzles, board games, chess and other similar activities that require multi-step thought processes keep our minds sharp. Cognitive Therapeutics Method (CTM) is also used to slow the progression of degenerative neurocognitive disorders. CTM provides cognitive rehabilitation with intervention activities and emphasizes lifestyle changes to positively influence the aging process and promote good brain health.
