With Cinco de Mayo in the rearview mirror, we thought we'd celebrate May by sampling Style staffers’ 10 favorite local Mexican dishes. Just don’t forget the margaritas! In no particular order…

1.  The Chile Relleno Burrito at Taqueria El Tapatio is easily enough for two meals, but it’s so scrumptious that stopping halfway through is hard! 916-788-0240

2. As a kid, frozen taquitos were my fav, so it’s no surprise the fresh-made Chicken Taquitos at Casa Ramos are my grown-up go-to.

3. The beer-battered Fish Tacos at Don Quixote’s Mexican Grill are consistently crunchy, fresh and flavorful. What’s more, you can customize between regular or spicy (perfect for my fire-loving palate)!

4. Spicy and citrusy, the Tostada de Ceviche at Plaza Jalisco never fails to impress the taste buds.

5. Sometimes less is more, and the Al Pastor Tacos at Fresh Mex Jalisco Grill are proof. Meat, salsa, cilantro, onions and corn tortillas are the makings of Mexican food success.

6. The Super Nachos at Rudy’s Mexican Gourmet have a perfect ratio of chips to toppings, ensuring each bite gets loaded with goodies galore. 916-435-4050

7. For a meal that’s filling and feels guilt-free, order the Chicken Taco Salad at Jimboy's Tacos. It may be the only “salad” I dream about.

8. For a simple supper that hits all of the right flavor notes, try the Steak Quesadilla at Dos Coyotes Border Cafe. How can you go wrong with gooey, melty cheese and tender meat in a grilled tortilla?

9. When you’re craving something off the usual Mexican food path, try the Mulitas (think of a corn tortilla quesadilla on steroids) at Chando’s Tacos.

10. The aptly named Super Burrito with carnitas at Los Cabos Grill isn’t only “super” and titanic in size, but tasty too. Try it “wet,” and thank me later.

In the El Dorado County Region:

1. The Basa Tacos at Cascada are consistently crunchy, fresh and flavor-packed. 530-344-7757

2. For a meal that’s filling and feels guilt-free, order the Chicken Taco Salad at Jimboy’s Tacos. It may be the only “salad” I crave.

3. The Chile Relleno Burrito at Taqueria El Dorado is easily enough for two meals, but it’s so scrumptious that stopping halfway through is hard! 916-933-8877

4. Sometimes less is more, and the Al Pastor Tacos at Fresh Mex Express Mexican Grill are proof. Meat, salsa, cilantro, onions and corn tortillas are the makings of Mexican food success. 530-642-9778
