Placerville

Becky Riepe is a hard-working member of El Dorado County, as she’s not only in school but housesits, cleans, provides pet care, nannies and works at a local ranch in exchange for riding lessons.

With such a full plate, it’s hard to believe that Riepe also dances! To date, she says her favorite dance she’s done is “a contemporary [one] that [she and her] classmates performed at the Harris Center for the Arts. Her teacher, Kendra Bermudez, choreographed it to a slow rendition of the song “New York, New York” as a tribute to 9/11.”

Her real passion, however, is in horseback riding, as she’s learned to ride both Western and dressage.

“My favorite thing about horseback riding is how relaxing it is, and the sense of accomplishment I feel after a good ride. One of the best feelings is finding a horse that you really click with, and getting a chance to improve your skills by riding them.”

Her advice to the under-20 community is to: “Ask the question: ‘Can I do anything to solve a problem today?’ If there is, then I have a starting point to figure out a plan and take steps toward remedying it. If not, then I know I can calm down, relax, and enjoy the day I’ve been given.” —Rachel Meeker
