Nonprofit organizations located on the west slope of El Dorado County wishing to learn more about the Women’s Fund El Dorado granting process or to have specific questions answered are invited to attend the WFED Bidders Workshop scheduled for Wednesday, February 18, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon.

The workshop will be held at the El Dorado County Office of Education, 6767 Green Valley Rd., Placerville.

Funding opportunities for 2015 include a total of $45,000 to be awarded under the Focus Grant area of Breaking the Cycle of Poverty, and $15,000, divided equally three ways, under Impact Grant areas of Supporting Women and Children, Providing Solutions to Mental Health Challenges and Promoting Senior Services.

Request for proposals (RFP) will be sent by email on February 9 to local nonprofits on the WFED mailing list and will be available for download at womensfundeldorado.org/grants/. Completed proposals must be returned no later than March 9 to be considered.

Submitted proposals will be reviewed and scored by the seven-member WFED Grants Committee based on such criteria as need for project; methods, activities and timeline; measurable objectives; and the organization’s experience, mission and budget. The top three grant proposals in each category will move forward to the WFED membership, which then votes in April on which proposals get funded. Grant recipients will be announced on May 28 and introduced to the membership at its June 4 Grants Gala.

The granting process is open to eligible 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations serving the western slope of El Dorado County. Interested organizations are asked to carefully review the guidelines outlined in the RFP and if interest areas/funding preferences are compatible with their needs are encouraged to apply. Organizations that received grants in 2014 must “sit out” the grant process for one year.

Focus Grant requests are limited to not more than 50% of what is offered for any particular year. For example, with a total of $45,000 to offer this year, any single grant request cannot exceed $22,500. The grant period will run from July 1, 2015, through June 30, 2016, when all grant monies must be expended. WFED receives 10 to 40 applications in a typical year.
