Parker’s Hot Dogs of Santa Cruz

The nation may know Parker’s Hot Dogs of Santa Cruz as the spot where Adam Richman from Man vs. Food attempted to eat five pounds of chili dogs, but to locals it’s the place that serves the best hot dogs in town. I recently visited the eatery for a Chicago Dog and Vanilla Cream Soda. Parker’s interior boasts beach-town memorabilia peppered along the walls and furniture, reminding patrons of their original Santa Cruz location. A small bar to the side of the register is a great nook for lunchtime customers to post up; for those dining with a group, there are booths lining the walls. I sat at the bar and watched as numerous franks boiled right in front of my eyes. Soon, mine arrived steaming and dressed with mustard, relish, onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, pickles and celery salt. I quickly dug in and was blown away by the 100-percent beef dog’s snappy casing and the quality of the accompanying condiments. In less than 10 minutes it disappeared, and I rested assured that Parker’s does indeed serve the hottest dogs in town.
