Describe your business. Did you find it, or did it find you?

Complete Ponds is a retail pond supply store for the “do-it-yourselfer.” We also build custom koi and water garden ponds, as well as pondless waterfall features. We have a dedicated service technician who focuses solely on cleaning ponds and pondless waterfalls; he’s also an expert in installing pumps, filters and UV-filtration systems, as well as leak detection and repair. It found me. I was selling jewelry in Portland, Oregon, and the owner of a pond store came in. Over the course of our sales interaction, he asked me if I wanted a job. I said, “Yes!”

What was the first job you ever had, and what did you learn from the experience?

Delivering newspapers door-to-door in Carmichael. At a young age, I learned the discipline of getting up early and being responsible for something. I also learned not to hop retaining walls on your skateboard or you’ll break your knee.

How are you involved with both the community and your customer?

Every customer is the same with us—It doesn’t matter how much or how little they spend. We focus on educating them so that we can build relationships and get them exactly what they need.

Why is your staff the best in the business?

The pond industry is always evolving. From new equipment to installation, there’s always something new coming out. Our staff is committed to educating ourselves so that we can confidently pass along what we learn to our customers.

If you could be in any other profession, what would it be?

A professional football player and a professional world traveler—I’m not sure if that’s really a profession though!

And finally, customer service is…?

Identifying the need and doing whatever we can to fulfill that need. It may not be instantaneous, but when we say we’ll call you back…we mean it!

Do you know that our editorial is not paid for, nor can it be purchased? In fact, our Introducing and Dine reviews are not paid advertisements. If you’d like your business profiled, please email Megan Wiskus at [email protected]. Once we determine when your business will be featured, we will contact you to schedule a time to come out and take a photograph. Thank you!
