Book Signing at Face in a Book August 11 With Malcom Brooks

Jul 30, 2014 11:14AM ● By Brenna Mc Gowan

Author Malcolm Brooks comes to Face in a Book on Monday, August 11 at 6:30 p.m.

His novel, Painted Horses, tells the story of a young archaeologist facing a daunting task in the vast landscape of eastern Montana.  With a major dam project looming, she has only a short time to explore a vast canyon to prove that nothing of historic value will be destroyed by its waters. A veteran of World War II who lives a fugitive life in the canyon inspires her to see something beyond the stark nature of the land. An ambitious and incandescent novel, Painted Horses tells a story of heritage threatened by progress, of love and fate.

“Reminiscent of the fiery, lyrical and animated spirit of Cormac McCarthy’s Borderlands trilogy, and the wisdom and elegance of Wallace Stegner’s Angle of Repose, Painted Horses is its own work, a big, old-fashioned and important novel,” wrote author Rick Bass.

Malcolm Brooks was raised in the rural foothills of the California Sierras. A carpenter by trade, he has lived in Montana for most of two decades. His writing has appeared in Gray's Sporting Journal, Outside, Sports Afield, and Montana Quarterly, among others.
